What did I read, and why? Some books stay in my mind. I might remember that I loved a certain book a year or two later, but I won’t remember what was special about it. Some books escape my memory entirely, despite the fact that they provided an escape, food for thought or entertainment. ‘What books do you recommend’ is a much loved and sometimes challenging question, hence the reading log. Below are notes on books I’ve read, why I’ve read or abandoned them, and what stays in my mind in the end. It’s a worthwhile discipline to summarise effects of reading the book, instead of proceeding to the next one without reflection.

The dates relate to the year I’ve read the book, not to the year the book was published. I always read, but when my days are taken up with work, family, dog and everything else the time to write about books disappears. Hence a few short additions - if you’re looking for a book to read, here are a few I read in 2022, and recommend.
