'Loop Track' by Sue Orr

I adored Sue Orr’s book ‘The Party Line’ – the writing, the characters, the atmosphere captured of rural life –awesome. When I heard an interview with Sue Orr and Kim Hill about her new book I bought it.

The topic women – or girls – in need of an abortion. What happens when abortion is not available – highly topical in a world where the right to abortion is not universal, and increasingly restricted in ‘civilised’ parts of the world.

The book is set in 1978 and 2020. The young girl, unexpectedly pregnant, in 1978, and what happens to her, her life, her son. Where and how they life in 2020. It’s the first novel that details how the first Covid19 lockdown affected the day-to-day life of its characters.

Sue Orr writes fabulously well, her characters are interesting and real, her writing of place evocative.

Highly recommended!
